Making Your Outdoor Living Environment Winter-Friendly

Winter officially began December 21 and with winter comes snow, ice, and brisk temperatures. As temperatures lower and the sun sets earlier, you may find yourself retreating indoors, unable to enjoy your beautiful backyard space until early Spring. Luckily, with some simple touches and heating elements, you can avoid cabin fever and transform any outdoor space into one that is cozy and outdoor friendly, allowing you and your family to enjoy your patio cover well into the winter months ahead.

Plant Coniferous Trees
Wrap your patio cover with strategically-placed fern trees inside terracotta pots to keep in the warmth and keep out the wind and snow. Additionally, coniferous trees are known for pulling moisture out of the air.

Patio Curtains
If utilizing trees is not something you are interested in adding to your space, patio curtains is a great accessory to add to your space that could be as temporary or as permanent as you wish. Outdoor curtain and curtain rods come in a variety of colors and styles to accommodate any home or design tastes.

Fire Pits and Heat Elements
No outdoor space is complete without a heat element of some sort. Whether your space can accommodate a wood-fed fire pit or an electrical heat stove, bringing this element in will instantly make your space more comfortable during the cooler months.

Dress Up the Space
The iron and plastic patio chairs that once sufficed during the warmer months will need some dressing up during the winter. Add plush pillows, cushions, blankets and throws to your furniture to make your guests comfortable.

Add a Rug
Warm up a cool floor by adding an outdoor rug to your space. Nothing makes a space more “homey” than laying down an area rug, which creates a soft layer between your guests feet and the cold stone floor.
